  3.     My husband and I really enjoy reading Tom Clancy's novels
  4. (BOOKS, Aug. 21), although I sometimes get lost in all the
  5. Soviet names and technical descriptions. I like to think he
  6. wrote Patriot Games for all his women fans. For the past few
  7. years I've bought my husband a Clancy novel for his birthday in
  8. October; I was happy to learn that this year would be no
  9. exception.

  13.     I don't mind Clancy's living out his fantasy life on paper.
  14. But with the security of the U.S. and the lives of real people
  15. at stake, I would be uneasy if he were actually to achieve his
  16. dream of working for the CIA. Americans have suffered enough
  17. from amateurs directing our foreign policy and covert actions.
